Step 1. Bridging the Gap

The LA County Independent Living program will provide TAY with an opportunity to live in an apartment while getting support that will help them achieve their independent living goals.

Mentorship

"You Belong" Initiative (YMCA LA): Provides mentoring for foster youth up to age 26, connecting them with counselors at 27 locations for mentorship, mental health services, and job training.

Healthcare / Counseling

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires states to provide youth under 26 with free health care if they were in foster care at age 18. This ensures that former foster youth can access the mental and physical health care services they need.

Food and Essential Needs Support

TAY in California qualify to receive CalFresh while in college. The California Chafee Grant Program awards up to $5000 annually to qualified current or former foster youth enrolled in a vocational school or college and making satisfactory academic progress.

Transportation Access

“Youth on the Move” LA Metro program provides free annual Transit Access Passes (TAP) and EZ Pass Access to current and former foster youth.

Develop consistency, teamwork, and real-world workflow through structured sessions and guided practice.

Learn the fundamentals of audio recording, editing, and creative production through structured, in- sessions using a portable studio setup.

HANDS-ON TRAINING

Receive guidance with resumes, applications, and financial aid, along with exposure to school counselors, union representatives, and industry professionals.
